What is Entrepreneurs Week?
Entrepreneurship is the practice of starting new businesses or organizations, generally in response to identified opportunities or problems.
Entrepreneurs Week is an initiative of Student Entrepreneurs, a student-run organisation based at the University of Melbourne, in partnership with other organisations committed to promoting entrepreneurship and innovation on university campuses around Melbourne.
Kicking off with the Opening Ceremony on Friday 6 August, the events include presentations by prestigious speakers, panel discussions, workshops, mini-competitions and the signature event of the week, the Innovators’ Challenge in which teams are asked to create as much "value" as possible from an assigned everyday object and implement it in only six days.
Letter of Support from the Minister for Innovation
It is a pleasure to endorse the third annual Entrepreneurs Week in 2010.
Innovation - including innovation based on science and research - is the key to success in a highly competitive environment. Businesses must embrace new ideas and new ways of doing things if they are to successfully navigate the challenging times in which we live.
It is only by increasing Australia's focus on entrepreneurship, knowledge·based industries, and new business growth that we can deliver secure, quality jobs and sustainable prosperity.
Entrepreneurs Week 2010 offers students the chance to learn important business skills and gain a better understanding of the innovation process. It is a great preparation for the future. I wish it every success.

Senator Hon Kim Carr
Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research
